With her boss preoccupied researching the Founder Houses in Morganville, student Claire Danvers is left to her own devices when she learns that three vampires have vanished without a trace. She soon discovers that the last person seen with one of the missing vampires is someone new to town-a mysterious individual named Magnus. After an uneasy encounter with Morganville's latest resident, Claire is certain Magnus isn't merely human. But is he a vampire-or something else entirely?

Taschima's POV:

So in this one Claire is seeing weird sort of normal looking guys (who are of course not normal) who give her the hibijibis and disappear from thin air, Eve and Michael want to get married (nobody in Morganville seems to like this particular idea) and vampires are going missing (again!). So it's the normal Morganville drama with even deadlier consequences because there's a new big bad in town that makes even Amelie's knees shake and makes Bishop look like a god sent (I kind of miss the bugger). Claire and the gang have to figure out where the missing vampires are located before Amelie does something she regrets and the whole town pays for it.

I have to say, in this installment I think I hated Shane less. Believe it or not he is repenting and not being much of an ass. I am still team Myrnin all the way though (and there is PLENTY of Myrnin to go around in this installment to satisfy all our fan girl needs), no amount of good boy attitude is going to make me change into Shane team this late in the game, but it's nice that he isn't annoying me as much lately. Kudos.

In the last book we were introduced to different POVs (mostly Shane's) and this book is no different. At first I thought it was going to be hindering the story instead of helping it because I am pretty set in my Claire POV ways and because I found out that being inside Shane's head for half a book was no picnic, but I have to admit that for this book the different POVs are necessary, and it works for the story. It certainly helps that we don't get much time in Shane's head (thank goodness), the times we get in his head are crucial to the story and it wasn't as bad as it could have been! (view spoiler)  I was however disappointed that I didn't get to be inside Myrnin's head! That would have been GREAT (/spoiler)

Now for the high points and low points of the story:

The good: We get some sort of BIG bad who is set on destroying Morganville and it's inhabitants, vampires and humans (Horray!). It gives the series that extra kick it needed since it's glory days in Carpe Corpus. Morganville is always fun and entertaining, but it's nice to have something that gives us a strong story line for more than a whole book.

The very good: There is something very shocking and very exciting happening in this novel! I can't very well tell you what it is, just that it involves one of our main cast of lovable characters and that it was a twist! It really made me just sit down and read that bad boy. (view spoiler) of course I am talking about Claire dying, wow! (/spoiler)

The bad: The exciting thing that happens doesn't exactly end in a note that inspires much. I... had other ideas for certain. It was like all these doors opened to new and possibly thrilling opportunities for our characters, and then suddenly all these doors were closed once again and we were left wondering why bother then at all. (view spoiler) then again I thought the ending to the Claire dying was too... easy and without much consequences. I thought we were going to be thrown a curve ball and she was going to turn into SOMETHING but instead she just becomes human again, which BTW how the fuck did that happen again? Seriously? Myrnin can bring people back from the dead now? And if it was just because Claire's soul was trapped in the house how did he know just exactly what he needed and had to do? Had this happened before to him? I know he is a genius, but come on!  (/spoiler)

The Very Bad: The Big Bad... changes a lot in the story certainly. It gives us something that needs to be overcomed and puts a lot at risk, specially since the series is supposed to end by next year. BUT every time they are described I feel like laughing a little, it's just seems silly to me! (view spoiler) Seriously? they are made out of water? You have got to be kidding me. Every time they are described I get this image of the water people in Futurama from the Three Suns Episode. (/spoiler) Don't get me wrong, they seem quite deadly, but I wonder if Rachel Caine could have come up with anything a little more "real" and not so silly sounding.

Am I really invested in this new bad? As I said before I miss Bishop and his totally evil ways, those were really dark days in Morganville history and to be completely honest this new big bad is reflecting that but to a whole new level. I just think how they are described i silly, but they are evil silly. If that makes any sense. Anyways, already reading Black Dawn! Time to see what other twists and turns Rachel Caine throws at us and our beloved characters.

If you have stuck for this long is either because you enjoy this series or because you have a love/hate relationship with it, all I have to say to both these people is that this installment is one of the better novels in the series, and I can't wait to fully dive into Black Dawn.
